Pilot Mental Health

Pilot Mental Health — Non‑Pharmacological Care

Evidence‑informed, medication‑sparing strategies to strengthen focus, emotional resilience, and sleep—designed for pilots and other safety‑sensitive professionals.

Who we are: Kinetic Medical Consultants (senior Aviation Medical Examiners) in collaboration with Tactical Minds, offering non‑pharmacological mental health and performance services appropriate for safety‑sensitive roles.

Why this matters for pilots

Pilots are trained to manage complex systems under pressure, yet the job demands—irregular sleep, circadian disruption, high responsibility, and continual evaluation—can tax the same cognitive and stress‑response circuits that keep you safe. Many pilots delay seeking help out of concern for medical certification. Our approach focuses on non‑pharmacological, evidence‑informed tools to improve sleep, emotional regulation, attention, and stress tolerance, while helping you navigate FAA documentation appropriately.

  • Confidential first: We discuss goals and constraints (e.g., certification timelines) before anything else.
  • Medication‑sparing options: Behavioral, physiological, and technology‑assisted interventions that do not rely on prescription drugs.
  • Operationally relevant outcomes: Focus, reaction time, situational awareness, stress recovery, and sleep quality.

What we offer (non‑pharmacological modalities)

These offerings are individualized. Some are wellness/performance services; some are clinical. We will advise on appropriateness, safety, and documentation.

HRV Biofeedback

Train heart‑rate variability to improve autonomic balance, emotional regulation, and stress recovery. Useful for pre‑flight composure and post‑stress reset.

Breathwork & CO2 Tolerance

Protocols for down‑regulation (anxiety/sleep) and alertness (fatigue/jet lag). Includes paced‑breathing, box‑breathing, and safe hypoventilation drills where appropriate.

Mindfulness & Attention Training

Brief, repeatable practices that enhance sustained attention, error monitoring, and cognitive flexibility—designed to fit duty schedules.

Neurofeedback (EEG‑guided)

Feedback‑driven brain training aimed at regulation of arousal and attention networks. Wellness/performance framing unless clinically indicated.

tDCS / tACS (Noninvasive Stimulation)

Carefully screened, low‑intensity protocols for attention, mood, or sleep support. Investigational for psychiatric indications; not a substitute for clinical care. Not used if contraindicated.

Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation (aVNS)

Gentle neuromodulation targeting parasympathetic tone. Often paired with breathwork or HRV biofeedback. Avoided with specific cardiac/implanted‑device contraindications.

Brain Entrainment: Sound & Light

Binaural/isochronic audio and (where appropriate) photic entrainment to support relaxation or alertness. Not used in anyone with photosensitive seizure risk or other contraindications.

Vibroacoustic & Somatic Reset

Low‑frequency vibration and sound to aid down‑regulation, body awareness, and sleep initiation—particularly helpful after long duty days.
